Q: How do you make sure you finish on time?
A: We agree a timescale that enables us to comfortably complete the essentials that need to happen before you move back in, as well as some of the lower priority items on your list. For any low priority tasks that we don't complete, we can arrange to come back by a separate agreement. This way you always know exactly when you will be moving in and how much the project will cost. It also allows you to change your mind about what is most important throughout the project .
Q: Why can't you guarantee to finish everything to a fixed price and timescale?
A: We work hard, and quickly. But we do things properly and don't rush or cut corners. We have all watched TV shows where they are frantically trying to paint wet plaster before it is dry; this isn't going to result in a good finish that lasts. Houses have a nasty habit of providing unexpected surprises, such as plaster that falls off when you strip wallpaper, or floors that need fixing before they are recovered, and they are all different, so it's impossible to estimate each job precisely because the scope of work keeps changing. By working the way we do, we can guarantee a high quality finish, working to a fixed price and timescale, where all the important jobs get done. Any remaining time is spent on less important things until the fixed budget and timescale are spent. Anything that remains incomplete at this point has been agreed as low priority, so can be tackled after you have moved in, or some time in future, if you still feel it is worthwhile.
Q: What happens if a subcontractor lets you down?
A: We are suitably skilled that we can deliver all core services ourselves, without needing subcontractors. Where we do use subcontractors, we only work with those we trust. Unlike a 'one-off' customer, we provide our suppliers with repeat work, so it is in their interests to make our jobs their priority. We also have more than one supplier for each service we offer, for added contingency.
Q: How does the billing work?
A: We act as a main contractor and take full responsibility for the delivery of the project. We are fully insured for all the work we do, and pay our subcontractors separately. This leaves you with one itemised bill to pay from us, and a single point of contact for any issues.
